News from Spanish newspaper La Opinion suggests that Naz will be fighting Juan Manuel Marquez after he has had his next fight.

Juan Manuel Marquez has apparently given up trying to get a fight with Naz, who wants to unify the titles. Marquez is reported to be after a fight with the WBC champion Cesar Soto, a fighter who Naz wants to fight as well.
Marquez is quoted as saying “The WBC has more credibility in respect to it’s own rules. The WBC has more credibility in respect to our rankings”. Not surprising really considering that he has been the number one challenger to the WBO title for the last 2 years.
Rich Marotta who does a boxing column for an American radio station and is highly regarded in the boxing world had the following to say : “I predict right now that if Juan Manuel Marquez does win the WBC Title from Soto eventually, the sudden desire of Naseem Hamed to unify the titles will just as
suddenly disappear.”

Hamed For Tapia Or Marquez

According to the L.A Times boxing column it is claimed that Bob Arum manager of Johnny Tapia (Bantamweight champion) received a phone call from Naz asking for a fight!

Whether this is true or not is unknown but if we hear anything else we’ll let you know.

Also regarding fancied opponents the name Juan Manuel Marquez is on the lips it seems of everyone on the net as a decent opponent for Naz to fight after he won again recently giving him 29 wins and 1 loss (23 KO’s). Only problem is that Marquez does not have a belt and that could put Naz off. HBO’s Larry Merchant was at the last Marquez fight so perhaps he was checking him out as a possible opponent for Naz as part of his HBO fight contract.

Marquez is ranked the No 1 WBO contender and the No 2 WBC contender.
